You’ve heard of synthetic wigs, but have you ever used them?
Whether they’re your thing or not, a very significant number of women like you are rocking wigs. And in a previous post, when we explained confusing wig terms, we mentioned that there were several wig hair types, including Remy hair, virgin hair, human hair and, of course, synthetic hair.
We also explained that the first three all have better quality and perhaps better reputation than the synthetic hair type.
But it doesn’t mean that many ladies aren’t opting for the latter.
Far from it.
In fact, in this post I’m going to show you why some women actually prefer synthetic wigs to any of the others.
What are the Advantages of Synthetic Wigs?

Here’s why synthetic wigs cannot easily be pushed off the market.
They are affordable
Synthetic wigs are usually more affordable than human hair wigs.
After all, they are created from manufactured fibres rather than real human hair. They feel the same as human hair, but they obviously don’t require the same gathering, cleaning and sewing processes that make the latter more expensive.
As a result, synthetic wigs are a better option at affordable prices, especially if you want to regularly change your look using multiple wigs in different colours and styles.
Synthetic Wigs Are Easy to Wear
It is easy to put on a synthetic wig.
With some other types of wigs like the full lace wig, you might have to get help putting them on. But with the synthetic you can easily whip it out, put it on and go ahead to have a great day.
You Don’t Need to Style Them
Synthetic wigs offer “style retention”, which means that they maintain their appearance without the need for styling, and may be worn right out of the box.

Low Maintenance
Human hair wigs are delicate and may require a lot of maintenance and styling. Synthetic wigs, on the other hand, are less sensitive and need little maintenance, making them a suitable choice for anyone with a busy job or leading an active lifestyle.
But they still need to be cleaned and maintained, of course.
After 8–10 days of wear, you should wash, dry, and moisturise your wigs. Then air dry them. This will help extend their lifespan.

They Are Lightweight
Synthetic wigs have the benefit of being far lighter than wigs made of human hair. They are ideal for all-day wear and comfort because they weigh roughly 2-3 ounces less than real hair wigs.
They Are Weather Resistant
Synthetic wigs will hold their style better than human hair in most climates.
If you live in a hot and humid or very damp climate, you can’t go wrong with synthetic hair. Meanwhile, human hair strands have the tendency to frizz or go limp in such weather.
Conclusion
At first glance it looks like synthetic hair is at the bottom of the hair-type list for wigs. But if that’s what you’ve been thinking, then think again.
Its affordability is a strength, and it allows for versatility if you’re the type that loves to switch up looks frequently. Moreover, they are lightweight, low maintenance, and weather resistant.
The one downside it has is that its fibres are not made from genuine human hair but it can be hard to tell the difference.
